Job Title: Cytotechnologist
Shift Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM. No weekends, no on-call, no floating. The department is closed for the following holidays: New Year's Day, Memorial Day, July 4th, Thanksgiving, and Christmas Day.

Job Description:
The Cytotechnologist will be responsible for the accurate interpretation and classification of gynecological and non-gynecological cytology specimens through microscopic examination. The role involves specimen preparation, testing procedures, and documentation to ensure accurate and reliable test results. The Cytotechnologist will adhere to established infection control practices and quality assurance standards. Additionally, they will assist the Histology Section Head with administrative oversight of histotechnologists.
Responsibilities:
- Supervise the cytology facet of the laboratory.
- Accurately interpret and classify cytology specimens, including gynecological and non-gynecological, using microscopic examination.
- Prepare specimens for analysis and document findings to ensure accurate and reliable test results.
- Evaluate non-gynecological cytology preparations, including smears, concentrated cell preparations, cell blocks, and fine needle aspirates (FNAs), according to established protocols.
- Refer non-gynecological and atypical gynecological cases to a pathologist for final diagnosis promptly.
- Finalize reports on all normal gynecological cases accurately and promptly.
- Assist with FNA specimen collection and determine adequacy through rapid on-site staining.
- Maintain and develop protocols for quality assurance and workload records, ensuring adherence to federal regulations (HCFA and CLIA)
- Perform administrative supervisory functions for the Histology section as assigned
- Write cytotechnology procedures and oversee cytology quality assurance under the Director of Laboratories' guidance.
- Collaborate with Laboratory supervisory staff and administration to establish and implement goals and objectives.
