Job Description:
The Nurse Manager is responsible for overall responsibility for the clinical nursing practice and resident/patient care on the unit. Provides continuity in decision making and consistent in nursing practice by assuring that nursing policies, procedures, standards and objectives are met. Coordinates the functioning of the interdisciplinary team (nursing, social services, activities, psychology) to meet the goals of according to established policy, protocols and procedures.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES: 
  • Frequently rounds the units 
  • Assign staff to resident/patient care.
  • Promote consistent standards of care 
  • Interact with other managers/supervisors alerting them to unit specific concerns 
  • Investigate specific problems of clinical practice and engage the team in finding a solution 
  • Collaborate with unit team, formulate and implement unit specific projects. Ensure staff understand performance indicators and individual expectations 
  • Ensure documentation meets standard and assist nursing with issues 
  • Ensure Health System, Administrative, and Nursing Policies are carried out. Identifies impact of changes on unit functioning 
  • Provide and encourage a safe environment for all employees, patients, residents, visitors and clients. 
  • Make recommendations to administration regarding clinical issues and/or safety needs for residents/employees
  • Respond to concerns by initialing timely action and documentation. Follow up with the appropriate manager 
  • Cooperate with the orientation programs to create a warm welcome for new employees. Support staff development in the orientation process. 
  • Mentor newly hired and existing personnel. Provide feedback. Remember 5-1 feedback. 
  • Assess the level of personnel needs to provide quality resident care on unit. 
  • Collaborate with staffing office in adjusting staffing patterns on a day-to-day basis 
  • Identify and resolve conflict in an appropriate and timely manner 
  • Performs all other duties as assigned Safety 
  • Promote and abides by all established safety practices and standards. Completes safety competencies, educational programs, and ensures a safe work environment. 
  • Ensure that their employees understand and practice the established safety practices and standards 
  • Provides and encourages a safe environment for all 
  • Ensure safety rallies are completed on the units 
  • Makes recommendations to administration regarding equipment needs to ensure the safety 

Staff Engagement and Staffing 
  • Oversees the department staffing schedule for unit. Collaborate with the talent team with the auditions, interview and hiring of candidates for open positions 
  • Support with the orientation programs to create a warm welcome with mentoring new employees 
  • Collaborate with the unit team to determine the educational goals for the unit based on objectives, protocols, performance improvement and needs assessment. 
  • Conduct employee's performance reviews according to policy. Provide feedback to employee regarding their growth and development 
  • Assure the necessary meetings occur include planning, leading, coordinating and/or facilitating meetings 
  • Respond to resource and communication needs of staff. 
  • Provides work environment conducive to professional growth and development by acting as a professional role model 
  • Develop clear delineation of various personnel rules on units. 
  • Assists in the development and presentation of educational program as requested 
  • Assess the level of personnel needs to provide quality. 
  • Prepare reports and proposals for obtaining necessary resources for unit as requested 
  • Responsible for ensuring that ADP is completed for assigned units. 
  • Cooperate with the orientation programs to create a warm welcome for new employees. Support staff development in the orientation process. 
  • Mentor newly hired and existing personnel. Provide feedback. Remember 5-1 feedback 
  • Build team through team problem solving, team facilitation, conflict negotiation and resolution. 

Quality 
  • Reviews, audits, reports, and provides follow up on quality measures. 
  • Participates in facility initiatives and provides input on outcomes 
  • Ensures the team is aware of quality initiatives and team follows the quality protocols

Required Qualifications: 
  • Valid Registered Nurse license and 3 years' experience; BSN preferred
  • Previous management experience preferred

  • Demonstrates sensitivity to residents' emotional, social, mental health and spiritual needs
